        Description: Several productions are offered each season at Oglethorpe University's state-of-the-art performing arts center. Musical entertainment on the lawn precedes each performance. The season kicks off in May with Shake at the Lake, a free Shakespeare series held in Piedmont Park.

If you plan to attend, come out to early, do some picnicking, and take in the park's other attractions.

        Description: Since the late 1970s, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race has proudly had the distinction of being the world's largest 10K. The tough 6.2-mile course takes runners from Lenox Square in Buckhead all the way to the new finish line at the intersection of Juniper and Ponce de Leon in midtown Atlanta, along the way forcing competitors to contend with two massive uphill climbs. Though this is a PRRO-sanctioned event (the total purse is $83,100), experienced runners of all skill levels are welcome to submit entry forms. The first 45,000 applications received are automatically accepted; the remaining 10,000 are selected randomly.

Little Five Points Halloween Festival & Parade

        Description: Known to locals as "L5P," Atlanta's Little Five Points has long been one of the city's most distinctive areas, a neighborhood whose offbeat flavor and affinity for the avant-garde have made it a favorite haunt of scores of artists and musicians. Come late October, those same folks must share the streets with a veritable cavalcade of ghouls, ghosts and goblins – all in the "spirit" of good fun, of course. In addition to the colorful parade, this annual celebration of costumes includes plenty of jack-o-lanterns, lots for the kids to do, and tons of spectacular sights.

One of the nation's oldest St. Pat's parades and parties, the event features a a full weekend of revelry, family festivals and, o'course, live Irish music. The parade kicks off on Saturday near Underground Atlanta, but the fun only gets started there. Visit the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales at the Atlanta Zoo or stick around for Sunday's ShamRock 'N Roll Road Race at Atlantic Station (Guinness optional for lightweights).
