Far-reaching in its interests and diverse in its celebrations, Copenhagen is not shy in its fondness for communal activities. Most events take place in late summer, capitalizing on Denmarks extended sunlight hours, but visitors find much to enjoy any time of year. One of the citys most popular happenings is the Copenhagen Jazz Festivals, whose hundreds of performances highlight jazzs countless interpretations and variations. Music also takes priority at the Roskilde Festival, a loud, boisterous event held in a field not far from the city. Its a much-anticipated summer tradition. On the domestic front, the Golden Days Festival graces the city with dance, theater, music, and literature as it honors Denmarks early 19th-century heyday. Images of the World, then, chooses a nation unfamiliar to most Danes and filters sports, film, and childrens activities through that nations particular culture and experience. The juxtaposition proves enlightening to participants and spectators alike. The citys more specialized annual events concentrate on design and fashion, antiques, the gay community, and the irresistible appeal of Tivoli.
