Description:
|
During the summer of 1863 and just days after the Battle of Gettysburg, the governor ordered the purchase of land to be used as a burial ground for those who died in battle. It was turned over to the federal government as a tribute to those who gave their lives. Abraham Lincoln appeared at the dedication in November of the same year and presented his famous Gettysburg Address. |
