General Lee's Headquarters Museum
(Attractions & Activities - Historic Sites)
401 Buford Ave, Gettysburg  17325 • 717-334-3141
Description: At the time of the Civil War, this picturesque, duplex-style house was the home of the Widow Thompson, her daughter-in-law, and her two small children. In July 1863, Confederate General Robert E. Lee established his personal headquarters here and shared occupancy with the family. Lee's staff chose this stone house for its thick walls and its close proximity to the center of the Confederate line. The museum houses original Civil War artifacts and relics. Credit cards are accepted with a $10 mininum, otherwise admission is cash only.
